* ipcpd: Reduce Linux slack timerDimitri Staessens2021-07-121-0/+4
| | | | | | | | | This will reduce the linux high resolution slack timer in IPCPs. Linux default for userspace processes is 50us. It is configurable at build using IPCP_LINUX_SLACKTIMER_NS. Default is now 1us. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri@ouroboros.rocks> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander@ouroboros.rocks>
* ipcpd: Disable core lock by defaultDimitri Staessens2021-06-211-1/+1
| | | | | | | | This was beneficial on dual-XEON CPU systems, but on most hardware, this kills performance when running multiple IPCPs on a single CPU. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri@ouroboros.rocks> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander@ouroboros.rocks>
* build: Remove raptor IPCPDimitri Staessens2021-03-281-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | This removes the raptor IPCP. The code hasn't been updated for a while, and wouldn't compile. Raptor served its purpose as a PoC for Ouroboros-over-Ethernet-Layer-1, but giving the extreme niche hardware needed to run it, it's not worth maintaining this anymore. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri@ouroboros.rocks> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander@ouroboros.rocks>
* build: Refactor normal to unicastDimitri Staessens2019-07-291-4/+4
| | | | | | | | This completes the renaming of the normal IPCP to the unicast IPCP in the sources, to get everything consistent with the documentation. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri@ouroboros.rocks> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander@ouroboros.rocks>
* ipcpd: Add broadcast IPCPDimitri Staessens2018-10-241-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | This adds a broadcast IPCP that allows us to easily create multicast applications. The broadcast IPCP accepts flows for "<layer_name>.mc". A tool, obc (Ouroboros broadcast), is added that sends and reads a message to a broadcast layer. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* ipcpd, irmd: Handle signal in main threadDimitri Staessens2018-10-181-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | The signals are now handled in the main thread instead of an asynchronous signal handler. The acceptloop is now correctly cancelled and the associated timeouts are removed. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* ipcpd: Configure DHT slack timer at build timeDimitri Staessens2018-10-121-0/+7
| | | | | | | This allows configuration of the DHT slack timer at build time. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* ipcpd: Remove stale QoS cubesDimitri Staessens2018-10-101-13/+1
| | | | | | | | There were QoS cubes defined for raw and data flows, which are now run on the best effort cube. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* lib: Add a data qos cubeDimitri Staessens2018-06-081-0/+6
| | | | | | | | This adds a data qos cube that is reliable. Reliable qos can be selected by setting the loss parameter of the qosspec to 0. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* ipcpd: Add priority for raw flowsDimitri Staessens2018-06-071-0/+6
| | | | | | | | The raw flows had no priority assigned, causing the scheduler to fail on creation. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* build: Update default values0.11.7Sander Vrijders2018-05-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | This sets updated default values for the default build. A higher connect timeout until we have asynchronous local IPC. Disabled SWIG since the lastest gcc reports an error. IPCP flow stats enabled by default since their impact on the performance is very limited. Waiting for the directory to enroll before returning to increase stability. Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be>
* ipcpd: Allow wait for dir enrollment on dt connDimitri Staessens2018-05-031-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | This adds the option to wait for the directory (DHT) to enroll on creating a new data transfer connection. This makes scripting network bootstraps more stable. The default setting is OFF. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* ipcpd: Enable locking threads to a CPU coreDimitri Staessens2018-04-051-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | This adds a function that locks a thread to a random core. This greatly improves performance on multi-cpu systems. There is no portable way to do this, this only implements it for GNU/Linux. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* ipcpd: Add IPCP over DIX EthernetDimitri Staessens2018-03-101-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This adds an IPC Process that uses DIX Ethernet with an Ethertype that is configurable at bootstrap. This allows parallel DIX layers over the same Ethernet network with different Ethertypes (and one LLC layer). It allows jumbo frames in the future, and should avoid the problems we have with some routers not handling LLC traffic very well. The destination endpoint ID is sent as a 16 bit integer, so the maximum payload is 1498 bytes in standard Ethernet, and 8998 bytes when Jumbo frames are used. The implementation is very similar to the Ethernet LLC IPCP, so it is implemented using preprocessor macros in the single source instead of duplicating code. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* ipcpd: Use the term "layer" and deprecate "shim"Dimitri Staessens2017-12-191-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This changes the terminology to use layer instead of DIF and deprecate the word "shim" for the IPCPs that attach to Ethernet LLC and UDP .The terminology has not yet been changed in the variable names etc. This reflects the design choices in Ouroboros to make IPCPs pure resource allocators instead of also providing an "IPC service". The Ouroboros IPCPs that attach to Ethernet and UDP implement the allocator and are thus not really shims. Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* ipcpd: Add support for raptor FPGA deviceAlexander D'hoore2017-12-151-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | This adds the initial raptor support from the master thesis entitled (dutch) "Implementatie van de Recursive Internet Architecture op een FPGA platform". Signed-off-by: Dimitri Staessens <dimitri.staessens@ugent.be> Signed-off-by: Sander Vrijders <sander.vrijders@ugent.be>
* ipcpd: Add multiplier to scale scheduler threadsdimitri staessens2017-09-251-0/+2
|
* ipcpd: Use the kernel scheduler for QoSdimitri staessens2017-09-211-2/+18
| | | | | | | | | This revises the sdu_scheduler of the normal IPCP to create a scheduler thread per QoS cube and let the kernel scheduler schedule them based on a priority. Priorities can be set at build time in a range of 0-100, which will be mapped onto a suitable priority for the kernel scheduler. The current scheduler policy is fixed to SCHED_RR since it is the most suitable scheduler defined by POSIX.
* build: Revise the build systemdimitri staessens2017-08-211-0/+12
| | | | | | | | | | This revises the build system to have configuration per system component. System settings can now be set using cmake. The standard compliance defines were removed from configuration header and are set in the sources where needed. Also some small code refactors, such as moving the data for shims out of the ipcp structure to the respective shims were performed.
* lib: Add basic FRCT mechanismsSander Vrijders2017-08-171-4/+0
| | | | | | | | | | This adds the basic FRCT mechanisms to the library. Upon flow alloc or accept an FRCT instance is now created and used when reading or writing to the flow. The timerwheel has been refactored to allow recharging timers and removing them and is now part of the library. The first SDU sent over the connection has the DRF set and this initializes the connection. Sender and receiver inactivity timers are added.
* ipcpd: Support Berkeley Packet Filter in LLC shimdimitri staessens2017-08-171-2/+2
| | | | | This adds support reading Ethernet frames using the Berkeley Packet Filter (BPF). Ouroboros now fully runs on OS X Sierra.
* build: Fix compilation on OS X Sierradimitri staessens2017-08-111-1/+1
|
* build: Add check for robust mutexesSander Vrijders2017-08-031-1/+1
| | | | | | This adds a check for robust mutexes. The constant HAVE_ROBUST_MUTEX is set accordingly in config.h. It also adds some other fixes to make the prototype compile on the Hurd.
* build: Format CMakeLists.txt filesSander Vrijders2017-03-031-7/+7
| | | | The CMakeLists files are now properly indented.
* ipcpd: Refactor ipcpi structdimitri staessens2017-02-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | The ipcp-ops header was removed and merged into ipcp.h. The common components dif_name and ipcp_type have been moved to the main ipcp struct. After this move, ipcp_data only contained shim information, so it was renamed to shim_data. The ipcp_init() function checks the type and will only include the shim_data if the type is not an IPCP_NORMAL. All ipcps have been adapted to this change in API.
* ipcpd: Add timerwheeldimitri staessens2016-11-251-0/+2
| | | | | The timerwheel can be used to defer work to a certain timeslot in the future.
* lib, ipcp: Compile on Apple junkdimitri staessens2016-08-301-1/+3
| | | | | | Disables robust mutexes and clock attributes for condition variables for compatibility with OSX (SUSv2). Implements clock_gettime and adds some defines for OSX compatibility in time_utils.
* lib: Add errnos specific for OuroborosSander Vrijders2016-06-221-1/+0
| | | | | | | This adds error numbers specificly for Ouroboros. It also refactors some of the header files that are installed. Fixes #2
* ipcpd: Adds a shim over IEEE 802.2 over IEEE 802.3Sander Vrijders2016-06-141-0/+1
| | | | | This adds a shim over LLC over Ethernet. It uses the raw socket API to send messages directly over an interface.
* ipcpd: IPCP over local memorydimitri staessens2016-05-281-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This introduces an IPC process that relays data between two local AP's over the shm_du_map. Only configuration it has is a DIF name. It required small modification elsewhere: lib: added support for the IPCP_LOCAL type irm: added support for the IPCP_LOCAL type dif_config: added the IPCP_LOCAL type tools: added support for the IPCP_LOCAL type
* lib: moved flow header and source to ipcpddimitri staessens2016-04-191-0/+1
|
* ipcpd: initial IPC processesdimitri staessens2016-04-181-23/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | Basic functions for implementation of IPC processes, and implementation of core functions of the shim IPCP over UDP. Updates to the build system to compile these IPC processes, as well as some fixes in the irmd (rudimentary capturing exit signals) and some fixes in the library, mainly relating to the messaging. Basic implementation of creation / bootstrapping / deletion of the shim UDP. Placeholders for other functions.
* ipcpd: added shm_pci_t to manipulate PCI in shmdimitri staessens2016-03-251-0/+1
| | | | | Provides access to the members of the PCI for shm_du_buffs stored in the shared memory ringbuffer.
* build: Add check target, fix packagingSander Vrijders2016-03-071-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | This adds a build target 'check', which executes a test suite for every daemon/library. Every test suite consists of a test driver that executes a function in a file with the same name as the function. The compile_debug script executes the 'check' target to validate there are no regressions. Packaging is also fixed and the prototype can be shipped as a tarball.
* build: Move debugging switch to correct CMakeListsSander Vrijders2016-03-031-0/+5
| | | | | | This moves the debugging switch down to the CMakeList associated with every program or library. It allows to build apps individually with debugging info on or off.
* ipcp: PCI structureDimitri Staessens2016-02-261-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | ipcpd/dt_const.h: ipcp-internal datastructures for dtp and dip constants ipcpd/pci.h : header for pci structure ipcpd/pci.c : pci structure ipcpd : updated makefile commit not fully tested yet
* src: Rename daemons and add tools folderSander Vrijders2016-02-221-0/+16
This renames the daemons to end with a 'd', as is common for UNIX daemons. It also adds a tools folder, that will hold the tools of the Ouroboros prototype. Examples are a simple echo application, an application to instruct the IRM ...
