Forwarding element

The forwarding element is an abstract functional element in Ouroboros that specifies an implementation of FORWARDING.

Note Note:   The IETF uses the terminology Forwarding Element to specify the part of a router/switch that forwards packets, and the Control Element as the management functionality to configure and update the forwarding element..
