GCC 10 defaults to -fno-common, so some variables that were defined in
the headers needed to be declared "extern". The GCC 10 static analyzer
can now be invoked using the DebugAnalyzer build option.

The initial implementation for the ECDHE key exchange was doing the
key exchange after a flow was established. The public keys are now
sent allowg on the flow allocation messages, so that an encrypted
tunnel can be created within 1 RTT. The flow allocation steps had to
be extended to pass the opaque data ('piggybacking').

This adds a new flow_join operaiton for broadcast, which is a much
safer solution than overloading destination name semantics. The
internal API now also has a different IPCP_FLOW_JOIN operation. The
IRMd doesn't need to query broadcasts IPCPs for the name, it can just
check if an IPCP with the layer name exists. The broadcast IPCP
doesn't need to implement the query proxy call anymore.

The ipcp connect command can now set a specific qos cube for data
transfer flows. For management flows, the tool ignores this and
defaults to raw until data flows are stable enough.

The flow allocator now passes the full qos specification to the
endpoint, instead of just a cube. This is a more flexible
architecture, as it makes QoS cubes internal to the layers.
Adds endianness transforms for the flow allocator protocol in the
normal IPCP.

This adds a function that locks a thread to a random core. This
greatly improves performance on multi-cpu systems. There is no
portable way to do this, this only implements it for GNU/Linux.

This makes the TTL non-optional and allows the maximum (initial) value
of the TTL to be specified at bootstrap (the default is set to
60). The fd in the DT PCI is now called EID (Endpoint ID). The names
"dif" and "ae" have been replaced by "layer" and "component"
respectively in all sources.

This refactors ouroboros to use "program" instead of "application
process" and "process" instead of "application process instance" to
align with current naming in current Operating Systems courses instead
of the ISO nomenclature adopted by RINA. This change permeates through
the entire implementation. Also contains some minor other refactors.

This commit deprecates ouroboros_init and ouroboros_fini and adds them
as a constructor or destructor, causing these function to be run
automatically when a program that links to the library calls and exits
main(). For this to fully work, the library had to be split so that we
can avoid the irmd calling these functions (the IRMd has to create the
shm structures on which these calls depend).
The library is split in 3 parts: libouroboros-dev, libouroboros-irm
and libouroboros-common. The latter is linked to the other two so that
including libouroboros-dev or libouroboros-irm will also link
libouroboros-common.

This adds a threadpool manager to the DHT. This was needed because the
detached thread could cause a data race on shutdown.
The threadpool manager is revised to allow multiple instances in a
single program.
The irmd and ipcp now store commands in a buffer (list) instead of a
single buffer before passing it to handler threads.

This enables user-written tools to instruct IPCPs to establish and
tear down connections (a.k.a. adjacencies) between its internal
components (Management and Data Transfer).
For more info, do "irm ipcp connect" or "irm ipcp disconnect" on the
command line.
This commit exposes a deletion bug in the RIB where FSO's fail to
unpack/parse. This will be fixed when the RIB is deprecated.

This revises the build system to have configuration per system
component. System settings can now be set using cmake.
The standard compliance defines were removed from configuration header
and are set in the sources where needed. Also some small code
refactors, such as moving the data for shims out of the ipcp structure
to the respective shims were performed.

thread without waking up all mainloops.

The IRMd and IPCPs will now call accept on their command sockets from
a single thread that will dispatch work to the other threads.
This solves a problem on OS X and FreeBSD where accept() doesn't time
out when setting SO_RCVTIMEO on the socket. Calling kqueue or select()
on that socket to wait for events before calling accept() didn't solve
it since select() or kqueue() might wake up multiple threads, with the
non-working threads again blocked on the accept() on shutdown.

This adds a threadpool manager component in the library that is used
in the IRMd and IPCPs. The threadpool manager now doesn't detach
threads but does a join when they exit. This solves a data race in the
previous implementation where some threads were not completely finished
upon release of some resources.

The IPCP will now report the DIF name and the hash value to the IRMd
as a dif_info struct. This can later be extended to add further
capability reporting. Some bugfixes in normal.

All information passed over the IRMd/IPCP boundary for using IPC
services (flow allocation, registration) is now hashed. This
effectively fixes the shared namespace between DIFs and the IRMDs.
This PR also fixes some API issues (adding const identifiers),
shuffles the include headers a bit and some small bugs.

Our mailserver was migrated from intec.ugent.be to the central
ugent.be emailserver. This PR updates the header files to reflect this
change as well. Some header files were also homogenized if the
parameters within the functions were badly aligned.

This adds the connection manager which allows the different AEs of the
normal IPCP to register with it. An AE can then use the connection
manager to allocate a flow to a neighbor, or to wait for a new
connection from a neighbor.
|
|
|
|
|
| |
The AE name should not be passed over the layer boundaries. If an
application has more than one AE it should exchange this in CACEP.

system. The creation of the logfiles (as well as the ap_init() call)
were moved into ipcp_init() to simplify the IPCP creation and
shutdown.

The ipcp-ops header was removed and merged into ipcp.h. The common
components dif_name and ipcp_type have been moved to the main ipcp
struct. After this move, ipcp_data only contained shim information, so
it was renamed to shim_data. The ipcp_init() function checks the type
and will only include the shim_data if the type is not an IPCP_NORMAL.
All ipcps have been adapted to this change in API.

This PR updates the normal IPCP to use the new RIB. The old ribmgr is
removed and replaced by a stub that needs to be implemented. All
components (dir, fmgr, frct) were adapted to the new RIB API. A lot
of functionality was moved outside of the ribmgr, such as the
addr_auth, which is now a component of the IPCP. The address is also
stored to the ipcpi struct. The irm tool has an option to set the gam
policy of the rib manager.

This allows IPCPs to bind a name, so that they can announce their name
to neighbors which can then allocate a flow to them. Registering of
the name happens by an administrator. It also moves the irmd_api to
common ground, since it is used by all IPCPs.

These operations separe the starting and joining of the main ipcp
threads into ipcp_boot() and ipcp_shutdown() operations. This allows
the proper cleanup of user data and user threads after the IPCP is
requested to shut down.

Reorganizes the normal IPCP a bit to make sure internal components do
not need to access the state of the IPCP. The IPCP has now a thread
calling accept and delegating it to the correct component based on the
AE name (this used to be in the fmgr).
Internal components are initialized upon enrollment or bootstrap of
the IPCP. If a step fails, the IPCP goes back to the INIT state, if
all components boot correctly, it goes to the operational state.
RIB synchronization is still done by sending a CDAP start/stop and
syncing with a ribmgr state, but needs revision later on.

Since the mainloop threadpool is created on ipcp_init and all threads
waited for on ipcp_fini, there is no need for it to be accessible from
elsewhere.

This corrects the license statements on all files. Installed headers

This will split the IPCP state PENDING_ENROL into IPCP_CONFIG and
IPCP_BOOTING. IPCP_CONFIG is concerned only with configuring the IPCP
with the bare essence. When in IPCP_BOOTING, the IPCP will complete
its configuration by starting its policies, and thus making the IPCP
completely functioning.

This adds a threadpool for the main loop of the IPCPs. Before there
was a single thread handling each request, which could result in
starvation since performing name queries at the same time as enrolling
a normal IPCP was impossible.

IPCPs can now use ap_init() to initialize the memory. All flows are
accessed using flow descriptors, this greatly simplifies IPCP
development. Reverts the fast path to a single ap_rbuff per process.
Splits lib/ipcp into irmd/ipcp and lib/ipcp-dev. Adds a lib/shim-dev
holding tailored functions for shims. Moves the buffer_t to utils.h.
Fixes the shim-eth-llc length field. Removes the flow from shared.h.

The state lock was reverted to an rwlock to avoid interference of
management functions with the fast path. IPCPs now close without
calling unsafe functions in the signal handler.

This adds a condition variable to the IPCP state, so that upon state
changes any listeners to state changes can be notified. It also
replaces the read/write lock with a mutex in order to be able to do
so.

This will add more functionality for enrolling two normal IPCPs with
each other. Some bugs were fixed in CDAP. Now on enrolling, an IPCP
will send a START message to the other IPCP. Next step is syncing the
RIBs.

Writing output to log files is now enabled by default. Logs are
written to <INSTALL_PREFIX>/var/log/ouroboros, which is created on
install. There is a log file for the irmd and one per IPCP. To still
get (colored) output on stdout, provide the --stdout switch when
starting the irmd.

This commit introduces a first version of the revised CDAP
specification. CACEP (for authentication purposes) has been separated
from CDAP. Application developers may use CDAP if they find it
useful. Within Ouroboros CDAP will be used to perform operations on
the RIB of an IPCP.
